Au/Pr0.5Ca0.5MnO3-y (PCMO)/YBa2Cu3O7-z(YBCO) sandwich-type junctions were f
abricated on MgO (001) substrates, and their resistivity was measured with
a constant voltage applied between the top Au and bottom YBCO layers. In th
e low-temperature region, the resistivity was drastically suppressed for se
veral orders with only a few volts applied due to field-induced switching e
ffect of PCMO. When the voltage was removed from the junctions in a low-res
istivity state, two types of behavior were observed: one which recovers to
a high-resistivity state and another which does not. (C) 2001 American Inst
