Abstract
Borage seed oil is the richest source of gamma -linolenic acid, an unusual fatty acid of medicinal value. The total chemical composition of two lipoph yllic extracts from Borrago officinalis seeds was determined by capillary g as-chromatography/mass-spectrometry, revealing the presence of tocopherols and sterols along with important quantities of fatty acids. The fatty acids were characterised as methyl esthers after derivatization with sodium meth oxide, a 14% content of GLA being found.
