Abstract
We investigate here whether carbonates can be used to decontaminate spent p rocess solutions. The interaction of 0.1 N solutions of iron(II), copper, a nd zinc sulfates with calcite and dolomite was studied by physicochemical s imulation using the Selektor program package and experimentally. Solid phas es that inhibit or slow down decontamination were revealed. This helped opt imize the specific surface area of the reactant and provided a rationale fo r a multistage decontamination process.
