The complex [Ni(o-Andp)(H2O)(2)] (.) 3H(2)O, where H-2[o-Andp] is o-anisidi
ne-N,N-di-3-propionic acid, was synthesized, and its structure was establis
hed by X-ray diffraction analysis. The complex crystallizes in the triclini
c system, space group P (1) over bar a = 12.023(2) Angstrom, b = 12.398(2)
Angstrom, c = 13.576(2) Angstrom, alpha = 91.46(l)', beta = 112.13(1)degree
s, gamma = 104.38(1)degrees, V = 1799.8(5) Angstrom (3), Z = 4, R = 0.0553
for 6272 reflections with I greater than or equal to 2 sigma (I). The asymm
etric unit contains two crystallographical ly independent complexes with si
milar structures. The distorted octahedral coordination about the Ni atom i
s formed by two O atoms of the propionate groups (the average Ni-O distance
is 2.007 Angstrom) located in trans positions with respect to one another,
the O atom of the methoxy group (the average Ni-OCH3 distance is 2.163 Ang
strom), and the N atom of the tetradentate o-Andp(2-) ligand (the average N
i-N distance is 2.087 Angstrom). The coordination polyhedron of the Ni atom
is completed with two O atoms of the water molecules (the average Ni-OH2 d
istance is 2.053 Angstrom).
