Several studies have documented gender differences in cardiological ca
re. Sex differences exist in pacemaker therapy, too. In 1994, 55.8% of
pacemakers were implanted in men and 44.2% in women. Over a period of
ten years (1984-1993) these figures remained nearly the same: 45.4% i
n female and 54.6% in male patients. We find a markedly reduced chance
for women to receive pacemaker therapy, although in our country more
women than men die a cardiac death.
