Abstract
A direct synthesis of bicyclic precursors of ulosonic acids is achieved by reaction of cis-alpha,beta -epoxyaldehydes with ethyl 2-(trimethylsilyloxy) -2-propenoate in the presence of boron trifluoride diethyl etherate.
