Abstract
Both photo luminescent (PL) and electroluminescent (EL) properties of 6,6'' ''-dimethyl-4',4-'''diphenyl-2,2':6',2 " :6 " ,2''':6''',2''''-quinquepyrid ine (DMDPQPY), a derivative of quinquepyridine, have been investigated. Its solution in CHCl3 emits with only one maximum at 365 nm, but an additional new emission peak appears at 553 nm in the PL spectrum of its film prepare d through vacuum evaporation. Only weak EL emission can be observed from ty pical single-layer devices, but introduction of a hole-transporting layer p olyvinylcarbazole (PVK) in the double-layer devices results in significant enhancement of the luminance. Both PVK and DMDPQPY emit in the double-layer devices. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
