Abstract
Nonlinear tests performed by using surface plasmon spectroscopy (SPS) on ul trathin films (9-50 nin thick) of polyDCHD-HS are reported. PolyDCHD-HS is a new soluble polycarbazolyldiacetylene which seems to show a certain degre e of supramolecular organisation even in spin coated films. The SPS tests, which were performed at 1064 run with picosecond pulses, gave a large and n egative value for the real chi ((3)) susceptibility: \ Re{chi ((3))}\ great er than or equal to 1.2 x 10(-17) m(2)/V-2 (significantly larger than what was found in the case of PTS). If further investigations at 1300 and 1500 n m confirm these results, polyDCHD-HS is promising for future applications. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
