E. Sarantopoulou et al., Modulation of period of quantum beats from optical emissions from the excited electronic states of mercury triatomic clusters, SYNTH METAL, 124(1), 2001, pp. 267-269
The period of the quantum beats from optical emissions between the excited
and the ground electronic states, and the tunnelling transmission coefficie
nt of excited electrons, in mercury triatomic clusters depends on the energ
y of the electron. The period of the quantum interference during de-excitat
ion of the excited molecule changes with the wavelength from 25 to100 ns. H
ence, the period of the quantum beats and the transmission coefficient of t
he electrons within the double potential barrier could be modulated by sele
ctive excitation of the vibrational levels of the excited electronic states
of the triatomic molecule. The process simulates the switching function of
a bi-state quantum transistor with its gate driven by light. (C) 2001 Else
