Abstract
Using monochromatized synchrotron radiation and the atomic-beam techni que with evaporating thin wires, the vacuum-ultraviolet photoionizatio n of Ta and Re in the region of the 5p and 4f excitation was studied. The photoion yield spectra are compared with calculations of the corre sponding photoionization cross section in the region of the 5p and 4f resonances. In spite of the large number of transitions there is good qualitative agreement between the main features of the experimental an d theoretical results.
