The SLOWPOKE II nuclear reactor developed by Atomic Energy of Canada L
imited is well suited for neutron activation analysis and the producti
on of small quantities of radionuclides. Emphasis has been placed on l
ocal research groups to transfer appropriate technology developed in t
heir laboratories into the community. This paper will review the devel
opment of several research protocols and associated technology and out
line their successful implementation into local industry. These includ
e for example, the monitoring of environmental chlorinated compounds,
the irradiation of gem stones, placer gold-mining efficiency measureme
nts and measuring industrial flow-processes.
