Abstract
The purpose of this study was to adapt the ''Job Descriptive Index '', a widely used measure of job satisfaction, into Turkish. A pilot stud y was conducted with the participation of 735 subjects of which 270 we re females and 465 were males, after translation and retranslation pro cedures, the scale was administered to the subjects. The results indic ated that the scale was Sound to be as reliable as the original versio n. Although the results of a factor analysis provided some support for the original five factor solutions, the ''Job in General'' and ''Work on Present Job'' subscales were not clearly separated. The results sh ow that total job satisfaction scores varied according to the whether the organization was in public or private sector, subjects age, gender and occupation.
