M. Ohe et al., UNUSUAL VOLTAGE-HOLDING RATIO CHARACTERISTICS USING INPLANE SWITCHINGOF NEMATIC LIQUID-CRYSTALS, JPN J A P 2, 36(8A), 1997, pp. 1025-1028
Unusual characteristics of the voltage-holding ratio were found when u
sing in-plane switching of homogeneously oriented nematic liquid cryst
als. Even when employing liquid crystals with much lower resistivity t
han is applicable to the conventional active matrix driving technique,
voltage-holding ratio characteristics were higher than those in conve
ntional electric fields applied along the direction perpendicular to t
he substrate plane. The unusual holding ratio characteristics were att
ributed to the electric held direction being approximately parallel to
the substrate plane.
