The IR spectra of normal and specifically deuteriated [CH3CH2TiCl3] sh
ow that coordination by Me2PCH2CH2PMe2 (dmpe) results in an unusually
low stretching frequency for one of the beta-C-H bonds in the ethyltit
anium fragment; the results are analysed for their relevance to the bo
nding in the beta-agostic unit in the light of quantum chemical calcul
ations.
