H. Darie et al., THERAPEUTIC APPROACH IN MYCOBACTERIUM-ULC ERANS INFECTION, Bulletin de la Societe de pathologie exotique et de ses filiales, 87(1), 1994, pp. 19-21
In Cote d'Ivoire, 88 patients of a series of 124 cases with Buruli ulc
er have been able to be treated and supervised. All of them have recei
ved local cares and various antibiotics, and 23 have been treated by i
slet skin graft. Among the numerous antibiotics used, only Streptomyci
n seems to be accompanied by an acceptable failure rate. The islet-gra
ft presents the advantage of the technical simplicity, of the good tol
erance face the infection and of a good successfull rate, which permit
s to shorten the evolution of this disabling affection. It seems to be
the best adapted procedure taking into account available medical mean
s in most of tropical countries.
