Abstract
TSM (Thermal Step Method) is a nondestructive technique to determine s pace charge distribution in thin and thick dielectric specimens, Altho ugh the experimental procedure is simple, the numerical techniques req uired for analyzing the data are complex and time consuming, Fourier a nalysis is commonly employed to analyze the TSM data, This paper propo ses the use of the inverse matrix technique to simplify the analysis o f the signals acquired by TSM, numerical simulation by the inverse mat rix technique if compared with the Fourier analysis technique. Corona charged as well as de poled XLPE specimens are tested to confirm the v alidity of the inverse matrix technique. It is shown that this techniq ue gives better results and requires less computing time than other te chniques usually employed for the TSM.
