The compounds [TlR2(S2PEt2)] (R = Me or Ph) were synthesized by reacti
on of the corresponding hydroxide TlR2(OH) with NaS2PEt2 . 2H(2)O and
characterized by X-ray crystallography, In both structures thallium is
coordinated to the two sulfur atoms of the diethyldithiophosphinato l
igand and to two carbon atoms of organyl groups. The chelate ring, TlS
2P, lies on a crystallographic plane of symmetry. Weak intermolecular
interactions with one of the sulfur atoms of a neighbouring molecule m
ake the coordination number of the thallium atom up to five. The vibra
tional and H-1, C-13, 31(P) and (TlNMR)-Tl-205 spectra of these compou
