Abstract
The preparation of a solubilised 2,2': 6',2''-terpyridine ligand is de scribed together with the characterisation of an unexpected intermedia te. Homoleptic complexes of the solubilised ligand 4'-(4-tert-butylphe nyl)-2,2': 6',2''-terpyridine, 1, with cobalt(II), cobalt(III), ruthen ium(II), iron(II) and nickel(II) have been prepared.
