Abstract
The radiocaesium contamination of milk decreased quickly to a low leve l all over the Federal Republic of Germany soon after the Chernobyl ac cident. Despite a very different deposition the values of caesium in m ilk approached each other over the whole area of Germany. This paper d escibes the ecological effects which contributed to this development.
