Chaotic mixing in two-dimensional square cavity flows with a periodic
lid velocity was numerically simulated. To quantify the mixing in the
cavity, the pseudo-Lyapunov exponent lambda was measured. After select
ing Reynolds number (Re) and amplitude of the lid velocity (A) as para
meters which govern the flow field and mixing conditions, relationship
s between these parameters and lambda were investigated. The obtained
results showed that neither Re nor A affects the value of period T whi
ch gives the maximum lambda.
