Abstract
In this paper we obtain a simple algorithm, based on laser Doppler vel ocimetry and time interval measurement, to determine the velocity dist ribution of a fluid when the scattered intensity is small. Knowledge o f the intensity distribution of the interference fringes is not necess ary. The behaviour of the algorithm is verified by computer simulation . The results are good even in the case of a rectangular velocity prof ile, where the sharp edges could have been a source of problems.
