The crystal structure of cesium 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylate has be
en determined by X-ray diffraction and refined by least-squares method
s to R = 0.057 and R(w) = 0.067 using 708 reflections. The compound cr
ystallizes in the triclinic space group P1BAR with one anion in the un
it cell. The lattice parameters are a = 6.8827(6), b = 7.9480(5), c =
5.1033(6) angstrom, alpha = 92.260(7), beta = 104.782(7), gamma = 90.9
70(5)degrees and V = 269.61 angstrom3. There is a very short hydrogen
bond with an O...O distance of 2.42 angstrom. The cesium ion is ten-co
ordinate with a distorted bicapped square antiprism geometry of oxygen
s about the cesium.
