We report X-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements performed at
the M-IV,M-V(U) edges of the ferromagnet USb0.5Te0.5. The data have be
en recorded in fluorescence mode at beamline 6 of the European Synchro
tron Radiation Facility. The two dichroic signals are positive indicat
ive of a strong orbital magnetic moment. From the measurements we esti
mate the z projection of the orbital angular momentum [L-z]. We find [
L-z] = -3.0. Our result is discussed in relation with published polari
zed neutron data.
