Chromium dioxide is investigated by X-MCD measurements on the Cr L-2/3
, CT K-edges and on the O K-edge in combination with Ligand Field Mult
iplet Model (LFM) calculations and Linearized Augmented Plane Wave (LA
PW) band-structure calculations. Applying so called Sum Rules [2, 3] t
o the Cr L-2/3-edges one deduces an upper limit for the orbital-moment
of 10(-2)mu(B) which is in good agreement with magneto-meter-measurem
ents. Both Cr K-edge and O K-edge X-MCD measurements reflect a signifi
cant polarization of the p-like bands and are well described by a spin
-density calculation.
