Abstract
Violence is one of the most important and preventable causes of head i njury in children. This review discusses the epidemiology of youth vio lence from previously published reports and from new information obtai ned from the National Pediatric Trauma Registry. Violence prevention i s considered in two categories: primary prevention aimed at the genera l population, and secondary prevention strategies focused on injured c hildren and adolescents. Rehabilitation professionals have substantial roles to play in both primary and secondary prevention of youth viole nce. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd.
