S. Brinkmann, INTIMAL PROLIFERATION FOLLOWING FOGARTY M ANEUVER FOR BILATERAL POPLITEAL ARTERIAL EMBOLISM CAUSED BY MITRAL-VALVE-STENOSIS, VASA, 26(3), 1997, pp. 232-234
Although embolectomy by Fogarty's manoeuvre is the therapy of choice f
or cardioarterial and arterioarterial embolism it might be followed by
complications. Our patient showed progressive arterial occlusive dise
ase caused by intimal proliferation. So the decision whether embolecto
my or a different therapeutic procedure should be applied must always
be done individually. Especially with young femal patients the interve
ntion is to be carried ou carefully. Alternative methods like percutan
eous aspiration embolectomy and fibrinolytic therapy should always be
considered.
