Densities and refractive indices of {x(1)CH(3)COOCH(3) + x(2)CH(3)OH (1 - x(1) - x(2))CH3CH(OH)CH3}, {xCH(3)COOCH(3) + (1 - x)CH3CH(OH)CH3
}, and {xCH(3)OH + (1 - x)CH3CH(OH)CH3} have been determined experimen
tally as a function of the mole fraction(s) at the temperature 298.15
K and atmospheric pressure. A vibrating tube digital densimeter and an
Abbe-type refractometer of synthetic sapphire prism (sodium D wavelen
gth) were used, the whole mole fraction range being covered. Excess mo
lar volumes and changes of refractive indices on mixing were determine
d from experimental data, variable-degree polynomials being fitted wit
h the results. Values of densities and refractive indices, as well as
the derived excess properties, were estimated and compared using diffe
rent methods. Partial excess molar volumes and those corresponding to
the infinite dilution condition were also calculated at the same tempe
rature. (C) 1997 Academic Press Limited.
