Kj. Dodd et al., THE EFFECT OF DYEING ON THE HYGRAL EXPANSION OF WORSTED FABRICS .3. REACTIVE DYEING, Journal of the Society of Dyers and Colourists, 110(5-6), 1994, pp. 190-194
The influence of different types of reactive dye on fabric set and hyg
ral expansion is detailed. Lanasol (alpha-bromoacrylamide) reactive dy
es were found to inhibit the development of set during dyeing, resulti
ng in lower dimensional instability. The low hygral expansion is attri
butable to set inhibition by the fibre reactive group and to water exc
lusion by the presence of dye molecules. An alkaline aftertreatment is
shown to result in increased fabric set and dimensional instability.
