P. Vercellini et al., A MODIFIED TECHNIQUE FOR CORRECTION OF THE COMPLETE SEPTATE UTERUS, Acta obstetricia et gynecologica Scandinavica, 73(5), 1994, pp. 425-428
When correcting a complete uterine septum, it is recommended that one
should spare the cervical portion to avoid the possible risk of cervic
al incompetence. However, it may be difficult to create a communicatio
n between the uterine cavities above the internal os. In seven patient
s with complete septate uterus we incised the cervical portion with Me
tzenbaum scissors and the corporal portion with microscissors under hy
steroscopic guidance. The operating times were shorter and the distens
ion fluid deficit smaller compared with nine historical controls in wh
om the cervical septum was spared. No intraoperative or obstetric comp
lications were associated with cervical septal section. This modified
technique is simple, rapid, safe, inexpensive, and may be considered a
mong the alternative treatments to correct a complete septate uterus.
