Abstract
Fluorescence XAFS measurements of the Fe K-edge are done for melt-quen ched La-rich La-Fe alloys. XAFS results of the as-quenched samples of La92Fe8 and La88Fe12 show characteristic features of disordered struct ure. The results for La88Fe12 after annealed at 400 degrees C for 30 m in. show that Fe are precipitated to alpha-Fe in beta-La. A strange ph enomenon of finding the amorphous clusters in the crystalline phase ca n be attributed to the immiscible nature and large atomic size differe nce between Fe and La.
