Abstract
We have studied the Tb-and Ce-L-III XAS of distorted-perovskite type B aTbO3 and SrCeO3 at pressure up to 20 GPa using a diamond anvil cell. While the XANES spectra of both tetravalent systems monitor an increas e of hybridization and crystal field splitting with pressure, the EXAF S spectra indicate an approach towards an undistorted perovskite struc ture with pressure.
