Abstract
A large volume fraction of atoms in nanocrystalline materials is locat ed in surfaces and interfaces. Atoms facing the particle boundaries ha ve a different local structure than atoms inside the particle. This he terogeneous disorder is investigated for nanocrystalline yttria powder by EXAFS spectroscopy.
