Sa. Sedrish et al., ADJUNCTIVE USE OF A NEODYMIUM YTTRIUM-ALUMINUM-GARNET LASER FOR TREATMENT OF PYTHIOSIS GRANULOMAS IN 2 HORSES, Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 211(4), 1997, pp. 464
Pythiosis, caused by Pythium insidiosum, is a common, cutaneous granul
omatous disease in horses in the southeastern United States. Surgical
removal is the most common treatment for pythiosis; however, recurrenc
e rates of up to 30% have been reported. Use of a neodymium:yttrium-al
uminum-garnet laser to photoablate the bed after mass removal may redu
ce the risk of recurrence.
