Clustering bifurcations are investigated by considering models of glob
ally coupled map lattices. Typical classes of clustering bifurcations
are revealed. The clustering bifurcation thresholds of the coupled sys
tem are closely related to the bifurcation structures of a single map.
In particular, cluster-doubling bifurcation induced period-doubling b
ifurcations and clustering induced chaos are found. At the onset of an
N-cluster state we always find uniform cell number distribution in th
e N clusters and uniform phase separations between these clusters.
