Abstract
The transition from a lamellar or periodic state to spatiotemporal cha os was examined numerically in the damped Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equatio n. The behavior of several quantities was examined near the transition as the system size was doubled five times and no systematic changes w ere observed. Thus there was no evidence to support a divergence at th e transition in the infinite system size limit. This provides strong e vidence of a discontinuous transition.
