subs stem with positive conditional Lyapunov exponents, This is a resu
lt of the so-called extreme trap. In the neighborhood of the maximum v
alue, the higher-order term of difference causes a first-order dissipa
tive effect. which is nor. reflected bq thr conditional Lyapunov expon
ents. Hence the actual average divergence rate is smaller than the max
imum conditional Lyapunov number and thus causes the driven system to
synchronize even when the conditional Lyapunov exponents are positive.
