Cd. Phipps et al., INFANTILE SUBGLOTTIC HEMANGIOMA - A REVIEW AND PRESENTATION OF 2 CASES OF SURGICAL EXCISION, International journal of pediatric otorhinolaryngology, 41(1), 1997, pp. 71-79
Subglottic hemangioma in infants is a well-defined entity with which o
tolaryngologists should be familiar. Although benign lesions with a na
tural history of regression, they may demand the attention of an otola
ryngologist to maintain a secure airway. Throughout the years, multipl
e treatment options have been proposed and utilized for subglottic hem
angioma. As of pet, however, there is no consensus as to the best trea
tment. Surgical excision is one treatment option available to the otol
aryngologist which has previously received less attention. We review t
reatment options and report two cases of surgical excision of infantil
e subglottic hemangioma. Both patients were extubated by postoperative
day number three and have remained symptom free. We support surgical
excision as a valuable treatment option. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ire
