D. Micanovic et al., GENETIC-VARIABILITY OF WHEAT AS RELATED TO NITROGEN-FIXATION BY ASSOCIATED RHIZOSPHERE MICROORGANISMS, Cereal Research Communications, 25(2), 1997, pp. 191-196
By nitrogenase activity and diazotroph number determination, in the rh
izosphere of several genetically divergent wheat genotypes, potential
possibility of elementary nitrogen incorporation from the atmosphere b
y Triticum aestivum L. was investigated. In most studied cultivars, a
positive correlation was found between nitrogenase activity and diazot
roph number. The highest nitrogenase activity was found in cultivar Sk
opljanka (178.00 nmol C2H4/g Of root) after 48h of reduction, in which
number of diazotrophs was also the highest (955.0 x 10(4)).
