Abstract
The author gives an introduction into the theory of psychoanalytic tec hnique on the basis of contemporary pest-Kleinian concepts. He focusse s on the clinical problems which are linked to the distinction between thick-skinned and thin-skinned narcissistic patients, representing tw o different kinds of the relationship between the subjective self and a third object within the internal oedipal situation. He illuminates t he special dynamics of transference and countertransference in the ana lysis of these patients which is dominated by the need for agreement a nd the expectation of understanding as bipolar dynamic contrasts.
