Until the '80s blood group reagents were composed of human or animal p
olyclonal antibodies; nowadays they are mainly produced from monoclona
l antibodies. Tn this paper two aspects will be considered; firstly th
e evolution in the use of monoclonal reagents in France and secondly t
he quality of these new reagents in comparison with polyclonal reagent
s. From 1981 to 1995, 17567batches of blood group reagents were analyz
ed and controlled by the French Blood Group Reference Laboratory (CNRG
S). AII data are given in six tables.
