Abstract
Since the results of studies done with angiotensin-converting-enzyme(A CE)-inhibitors, systemic thrombolysis and primary percutaneous translu minal angioplasty (PTCA) have been published, post-myocardial infarcti on therapy has changed dramatically. In most european countries system ic thrombolysis as early as possible is the standard therapy. Cardiolo gists prefer more and more immediate revascularisation if the technica l standard of the hospital is allowing an acute intervention. Pharmaco logical therapy is done initially with beta-blockers and platelet aggr egation inhibitors, if necessary intravenously, since the results of t he e. g. GUSTO-and the AIRE-study are known, If left ventricular dysfu nction exists or develops, ACE-inhibitors are given after the third da y post myocardial infarction.
