Abstract
The erbium nitrate complex with 6,6'-bis (diphenylphosphine oxide meth yl)-2,2'-bipyridine-1,1'-dioxide was synthesized and characterized by IR spectra and molar conductance. The crystal and molecular structures of the complex were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction te chnique with a four circle diffractometer to give final R and R(w) val ues of 0.054 1 and 0.049 0. The crystal of the complex is monoclinic w ith a space group C2/c. The unit cell parameters are: a=1.983 0(4) nm, b=2.313 5(4) nm, c=1.860 0(3) nm; beta=96.18(2)degrees, z=4, V=8.484( 3) nm(3), D-c=1.33 g/cm(3). The Er3+ ion is chelated by four P=O and f our N-O groups from the two organic ligands. All the coordinated water molecules are replaced by the organic ligands.
