Abstract
The kinetics of the reaction between glycidyl vinyl ether (GVE) and ca rbon dioxide has been studied by using quaternary ammonium salts as ca talyst. The catalysts having larger cations and more nucleophilic coun ter-anions showed higher activity. In a semi-batch reactor where CO2 i s continuously supplied, the reaction is first order with respect to t he concentration of GVE. In a high pressure batch reactor, the reactio n is first order with respect to both GVE and CO2 and second order ove rall. In the latter case, a simple method to evaluate the rate constan t and Henry's constant is also proposed.
