Abstract
This paper reports results concerning effects of situation (stake vs n o-stake) and of answer format (normative vs ipsative) on self descript ions. In the situation with no stake, perceived desirability of descri ptors does not affect self descriptions. In the situation involving an important stake, despite an ipsative answer format, self descriptions are distorted in the perceived desirable direction. This distortion a ffects equally and moderately the five dimensions.
