The method describes the determination of phosphorus in copper artifac
ts by graphite furnace AAS using La(NO3)(3) as the matrix modifier. Th
e sensitivity of the procedure is calculated as 3500 pg (pico grams).
The accuracy of the method was assessed by analyzing two MBH copper al
loys. The results obtained are in good agreement with the certified va
lues. Phosphorus, up to 0.006% in 25-mg samples taken from six copper
coins, was successfully determined.
