The evolution of the southern Pyrenean zone corresponds to the progres
sive southwards translation of a foreland basin by a succession of sec
ond-generation fault-propagation folds forming piggy-back and foreland
basin. A balanced cross section program allows to calculate the short
ening of the western south Pyrenean zone. It reaches more than 38% of
the initial length.
