We report optical and radio observations of the double-lobed radio gal
axy 3C 20. The compact radio hot spot in the western lobe also emits o
ptical synchrotron radiation and field polarimetry with a Savart plate
shows it to be (49 +/- 7) % polarized. The eastern hot spot is not de
tected optically. New VLA observations at wavelengths of 6 and 2 cm an
d with resolutions of 0.14'' 14 and O.40'' are also presented. A radio
core is detected for the first time. We present spectral index maps f
or both hot spots and discuss their physics.
