Reactions of MLCl2(M = Pd(II), Pt(II); L = bipy, phen) with Bzval H-2(
Bzval H-2 = N-benzoyl-DL-alpha-valine) in aqueous solution at pH simil
ar to 9 gave three complexes [Pd(bipy)(Bzval-N,O)] (1), [Pd(phen)(Bzva
l-N, O)]. H2O(2) and [Pt(bipy)(Bzval-N,O)]. H2O(3). All of these compl
exes were characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectra. The stru
cture of 1 has been determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. In all c
omplexes an N-benzoyl-DL-alpha-valinate dianion coordinates to the met
al ion through a deprotonated amide nitrogen and a carboxylic oxygen.
There is some intramolecular interaction between phenyl ring and bipy
