Rr. Chadwick et al., APPLICATIONS OF CAPILLARY ELECTROPHORESIS IN THE EYE-CARE PHARMACEUTICAL-INDUSTRY, Journal of chromatography, 671(1-2), 1994, pp. 403-410
The speed and resolution of capillary electrophoresis (CE), combined w
ith its low cost and low volume requirements, make it a promising meth
od of separating eye-care pharmaceuticals and analyzing the ionic comp
osition of tears. Capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) offers linearit
y, precision, and recovery comparable to high-performance liquid chrom
atography (HPLC) at a fraction of its cost. In addition, CZE separates
and quantitates cocoamphocarboxyglycinate in the presence of a non-io
nic fatty acid amide surfactant seven times faster than HPLC. CE easil
y detects such cations as sodium and potassium in human tears.
