The so-called osteochondrosis dissecans syndrome of young dogs has bee
n reported. This syndrome causes lameness mainly in dogs heavy in buil
d. Localization of the alteration has been mentioned (osteochondrosis
of caput humeri, condylus medialis humeri, processus coronoideus media
lis et processus anconeus ulnae, caput et collum femoris, condylus lat
eralis femoris, malleolus lateralis et medialis ossis tali and os sacr
um). The above mentioned anatomical regions affected first of all the
epiphysis (except for the lack of the fusion of processus anconeus). O
nly the separation of tuberositas tibiae, the so-called Schlatter-Osgo
od syndrome was known as an alteration affecting the apophyses. The Se
ver's disease mentioned in this study means the apophyseolysis of tube
r calcanei which can not be traced back to a traumatic cause. The alte
ration has been diagnosed in 5 dogs until now (in 2 Dobermann and 3 Ro
ttweiler dogs). The course of the disease is not uniform. In two cases
sudden lameness white in 3 cases gradually progressing lameness devel
oped. The successful therapy was based on a correct extension bandage
immobilization which was combined with external fixation (fixateur ext
erne) in more severe cases.
